Xavier College – Central Precinct Upgrade

Balancing Sun and Shade

The Central Precinct Upgrade at Xavier College involved the delivery of new and enhanced facilities within the Kew campus, designed to integrate with the existing built form while prioritising performance, durability, and long-term functionality in a high-use educational environment. 

Louvreclad worked in collaboration with MGS Architects and Ireland Brown Constructions to supply façade screening and solar shading systems. 

The Delta Series® Perforated Louvre was installed to the plant room wall, positioned between the top of a concrete hob and the underside of the structural beams. This system features horizontal perforated steel blades mechanically fastened to vertical support posts, forming a continuous slatted ventilation screen that incorporates an integrated access door. 

The roll-formed steel construction incorporates built-in vermin mesh, providing zero-vision screening, high impact resistance, rain defence performance, heat resistance, and non-combustible protection suited to service environments where safety and airflow are critical. 

Across Levels 1 and 2, Caprice Series® Modular Fins were installed to provide passive solar control. The system consists of modular extruded aluminium vertical fins connected by horizontal channels, forming a structured screen across window frames and external walls.  

The fins are configured with variable pitch and angle to reduce solar heat gain and glare. Non-combustible aluminium construction supports building safety while contributing to passive shading and energy-efficient performance. 

Together, these systems deliver durable, low-maintenance façade solutions that integrate seamlessly with the building envelope, supporting effective ventilation, solar control, and long-term structural performance across the upgraded precinct.
