The Sylvia Walton Building at La Trobe University is a five star building for student and staff that was named after former Chancellor, Dr Sylvia Walton AO, in recognition of her outstanding leadership at the University. An outstanding six story, $45 million building is an iconic beacon showcasing eclectic design and cutting edge student facilities.
Louvreclad supplied Platinum Series® 4mm custom fabricated aluminium cladding, forming part of the building’s signature façade expression and contributing to its 5-Star Green Star rating. The system is integrated as structural cladding elements, creating a distinctive zigzag composition across the façade aligned with the architect’s “disordered order” design intent by Lyons, expressed through a herringbone-inspired façade pattern.
A concealed fixing system was used to achieve a refined floating visual effect, allowing the façade elements to appear lightweight and continuous. The panels were installed in varying geometries and 4-metre lengths, anodised in a range of finishes including Sapphire Aluminium, Wattle, Sandune, Terracotta, and Cinnamon, reinforcing the layered and geometric composition of the exterior.
Installation was carried out with close attention to detail, supporting a high-quality finish and efficient project delivery.
