Gilroy Catholic College – Stage 1, Castle Hill NSW

When solar shading is designed and engineered properly, it both elevates a building’s aesthetics, and improves occupant conditions, energy efficiency and safety. On the Gilroy Catholic College, Stanton Dahl Architects took this to heart, seeking to create an educational space that inspires.

Located in Castle Hill, Sydney, the College is a co-educational secondary day school, committed to holistic child development from Year 7 to Year 12 through a broad curriculum and modern facilities.

In collaboration with Stanton Dahl Architects and FAL Construction, Louvreclad engineered and installed a variety of screen types into the college façade.

The result is a seamless blend of design and function.

The external walkways are graced by our Platinum Series® custom fabricated horizontal sun blades, along with Mirage Series® swaged canopy screening and Barossa Series® vertical battens.

The Barossa Series® aluminium batten screens introduce a vibrant vertical aesthetic to the façade with Dulux Duratec Copper Metallic, Intensity Desert Satin, and Electro Burnished Copper powder coat finishes. These screens, engineered to stringent balustrade requirements, ensure shade and safety while maintaining unobstructed views of the school courtyard.

For window shading, our Caprice Series® 484 and Scarborough Series® were selected, while Merlin Series® 430 elliptical blades provide vertical shading and architectural elegance to the east and west facades.

The school entrance showcases Polaris Series® perforated aluminium screens, custom folded to create an architectural feature.

This project serves as an inspiring case study, demonstrating the transformative potential of well-designed and engineered solar shading. It sets a standard for future architectural endeavours, where form and function unite seamlessly.
