Ferny Grove State High School – DET Learning Centre, QLD
Expertly engineered vertical and horizontal sunscreens
arkLAB Architecture always embrace the Department of Education’s strict guidelines around sunlight control and shading, making a point to articulate the sun screening into their façade designs. The Ferny Grove State High School façade is an exemplar, expertly designed as a cell-like structure of vertical and horizontal sunscreens referencing the periodic table.
Louvreclad was selected early by arkLAB as their trusted louvre and sun shading partner, and an initial discovery meeting was held. Further collaboration led to the design of the connection details for the Louvreclad Caprice Series® vertical sun blades and Louvreclad Mirage Series® horizontal sunscreens into the building structure. The project specification was then clarified, streamlining the tendering documentation process and mitigating risk for the head contractor.
Wiley & Co was the awarded contractor and with a clear and concise specification detailing Louvreclad screens, our team was brought on board to provide a bespoke turn-key vertical and horizontal sunscreens solution.
Once onsite, the early design involvement also simplified the procurement and project management for the builder, enabling Louvreclad’s project team to meet the strict installation time constraints, while manoeuvring around a very tight site.
All in all, this was a high-end project completed on spec, on time and on budget, leaving the architect, builder and client extremely happy.
