Elevating Public Infrastructure Through Performance

The Rochedale Bus Station Park ‘n’ Ride was delivered to support Brisbane’s growing southern corridor, providing a safe, efficient, and comfortable transport interchange for daily commuters. Designed by GHD Design and constructed by the Bielby Hull Joint Venture for the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the project demanded durable, high-performing materials capable of withstanding Queensland’s climate while supporting long-term operational efficiency.

During the tender phase, Louvreclad was engaged to provide an alternative façade solution—one that focused on measurable building performance, constructability, and lifecycle value. Rather than replicating the base specification, Louvreclad proposed a coordinated louvre strategy that would actively contribute to ventilation, weather protection, and solar control across key areas of the station.

To the Tower 1 and Tower 2 south elevations, Louvreclad proposed the Kensington Series® rain-resistant louvre system as a high-performance alternative solution. Engineered to deliver Class A (100%) rain resistance while maintaining effective airflow, the system addresses the challenge of wind-driven rain without enclosing the structure or relying on mechanical intervention.

With a 50% free open area, integrated vermin mesh, and sealed subhead and subsill detailing, the Kensington Series provides predictable internal conditions and reduces long-term maintenance risk—key considerations for public transport infrastructure.

For the pedestrian overpass and screen façades, Louvreclad recommended the Windsor Series® aluminium sun shade louvres to manage solar exposure and privacy. The elliptical blade geometry delivers consistent shading, reduced glare, and improved pedestrian comfort while contributing to passive environmental control strategies within the precinct.

Both systems were engineered in extruded aluminium and specified with a Dulux® Duratec® Zeus® Silver Grey Matt finish to ensure durability, corrosion resistance, and visual cohesion across the façade.

Implement with surety

Following acceptance of Louvreclad’s tender-stage performance solution, the systems were fully engineered, manufactured, and installed to meet the project’s program, compliance requirements, and performance criteria.

Close coordination with the builder and design team ensured seamless integration into the station’s structural and architectural framework.

Reflect with confidence

The result is a façade package that supports:

  • Controlled natural ventilation
  • Proven rain defence in exposed conditions
  • Reduced solar heat load in pedestrian zones
  • Long-term durability with minimal maintenance

Delivered on time and to specification, the Rochedale Bus Station Park ‘n’ Ride demonstrates the value of performance-driven alternatives at tender stage—where informed engineering input can enhance building behaviour, reduce risk, and deliver enduring public infrastructure.
