The AMPOL Headquarters in Alexandria features a sculptural façade of twisted Polaris Series® perforated aluminium fins, designed by Cottee Parker Architects. Delivered by Ausrise Aluminium with Louvreclad’s early design input and in-house manufacturing, the solution balances visual impact, solar performance, and efficient delivery.

Delivering approximately 9,300m² of flexible office and retail space, the development integrates seamlessly with the Green Square precinct. The design reinforces its identity as a benchmark for campus-style workplaces, aligning with the precinct’s energy, vision, and future-focused evolution.

The façade concept was introduced to Louvreclad by Ausrise Aluminium, along with Cottee Parker’s schematic drawings and cardboard models, presenting a vision of dynamic, twisted horizontal fins. Motivated by the opportunity to innovate, Louvreclad’s R&D team explored how the concept could be realised without compromising constructability or performance.

Their design response led to a sculptural solution using the custom Polaris Series® — folded, perforated aluminium ribbons that twist across the building’s north, south, and east elevations, functioning as solar shades while framing views of Perry Park and the surrounding streetscape.

To align vision with real-world constraints, Louvreclad developed and tested two full-scale prototypes on-site, allowing refinement of geometry, validation of shading performance, and confirmation of visual and functional outcomes.

Transforming a complex architectural motif into a buildable system required advanced technical resolution. Using 3D modelling, structural engineering, and prototyping, Louvreclad’s in-house team evolved the concept into a refined, repeatable fin system — engineered for easy installation and long-term performance.

Faced with a condensed delivery program, Ausrise Aluminium engaged Louvreclad for their track record of collaboration, precision, and reliability. Early engagement in the design process and in-house production capabilities enabled Louvreclad to respond swiftly and efficiently.

Their vertically integrated Queensland facility enabled complete control over precision punching, folding, and powder-coating, supporting quality assurance and schedule certainty. Proactive coordination and robust project management ensured the successful delivery of a façade that seamlessly merges performance with place, supporting Alexandria’s transition to flexible, future-ready commercial environments.

A Benchmark for Campus-Style Workplaces

Visually fluid yet structurally precise, the façade captures light and movement throughout the day, contributing to the building’s passive design strategy while enlivening the public realm with a contemporary sculptural language.

This project exemplifies how architectural innovation and functional design can transform urban spaces. The flexible office and retail space, combined with the dynamic façade, sets a new standard for commercial precincts, contributing to Alexandria’s evolving landscape.
