How CFD testing benefits louvre design

.

What is CFD modelling & how does it benefit louvre design?

Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling is the analysis of fluid flows using numerical solution methods. It enables us to perform numerical experiments as seen in Figure 1, in a virtual laboratory setup as shown in Figure 2. The applications for CFD are incredibly diverse, it can be used to solve huge atmospheric and industrial processes down to fine details of flows in living creatures and nanofluid applications.

For performance louvres, CFD modelling allows us to create a virtual laboratory in accordance with the parameters set out by Australian Standard AS 4740:2000. Within this virtual space we can test the rain defence and aerodynamic performance of each unique louvre profile. Adaptive cell refinement is often carried out in CFD modelling to ensure the accuracy of the results.

Key Advantage of CFD Testing Louvres

One of the advantages of CFD testing is it allows non-disruptive measurement to be carried out allowing numerical data to be extracted from the results without affecting the fluid flow behaviour.

In the past, CFD analysis has been an expensive and time-consuming exercise and often reliant on external experts. Now that we have qualified in-house expertise and the CFD tool we can develop our louvre profiles and test the performance in a very short time frame.

All our louvres are modelled in accordance to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4740:2000 for testing natural ventilators, which allows us to provide performance classifications for all louvre profiles.

Reliable Performance Data

CFD modelling technology provides Louvreclad’s team of industry experts the tools to present reliable performance test data for all louvres. The specifier can then use this information to quickly compare and select the correct louvre that meets the mechanical performance requirements of their project.
